The Supreme Court on Wednesday declared former MNA Nazir Ahmad Jutt ineligible to contest by-election from NA-167, Vehari. A three-member bench of the court comprising Justice Javed Iqbal, Justice Muhammad Sair Ali and Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali dismissed the petition of Nazir Ahmad Jutt against the decision of the Election Tribunal of the Lahore High Court.
The Supreme Court ruled that Nazir Jutt could not contest by-polls as he did not qualify the prerequisites envisaged by article 62 of the Constitution. Justice Javed Iqbal during the hearing observed that parliamentarians elected on fake degree have been lying to their voters. “Dishonest person cannot be allowed to become Member of Parliament”, he said. Nazir Ahmad Jutt had resigned from his seat fearing action on possessing fake BA degree. After resignation he again filed nominations papers from NA-167, Vehari, to contest the by-elections. His papers were accepted by returning officer but were rejected by the Election Tribunal. The petitioner in the LHC had submitted that Nazir Ahmad Jutt was not even FA and had got a fake BA degree from Al-Khair University Azad Jammu & Kashmir. | | | |
