Rehmat Shah Afridi, the owner and editor of “Frontier Post” has been released on 24th May, 2008, after 9 years in Jail.
Mr.Afridi was arrested on 02, April, 1999 on the charges of possession of “Hashish” by Anti-Narcotics -Force.
Mr. Afridi was sentenced to death by hanging in 2001, But, Lahore High Court decreased the punishment to life imprisonment in June 2004.
PFO (press freedom organization) was of the view that the police investigations were irregular, manipulated, and based on harassment.
Mr. Afridi was the first and last person until now, who got death penalty on illegal drug possession charges.
