A delegation of PTI leaders led by the Secretary General Dr Arif Alvi and including party Vice President Mr Yusuf Gabol, and Karachi President Mr Subhan Sahil with about 100 workers visited the Denso Hall
area of Karachi which was devastated by fire on the day of Ashura. The delegation was met by the leadership of traders who were camped there. Dr Alvi communicated the message of the party Chairman, of condolence and sympathy and assured the traders that the party will do everything in its power that the losses are compensated to the fullest extent and that the culprits are punished. Dr Alvi said that this was the second incident in Karachi of burning by using incendiary chemicals. The first was on April 9, 2008 when six lawyers were burnt in Karachi and the other was on Ashura. Had the government investigated the first incident and punished the culprits this would not have happened. The traders insisted that this was a preplanned attack in which hundreds of people participated who
had all the necessary utensils to cut huge locks, and also had battering rams to break down shutters.
The party delegation visited all the three affected areas including Denso Hall, Light House and the plastic market. The primary issues according to the traders were compensation of losses and that their possession of the shop areas burnt down should be preserved exactly as it existed because.
It was sad to see that most of them were sitting on the rubble of destroyed buildings and afraid that they will lose possession of what was now only an imaginary space and right. The traders spoke very highly of the
leadership of Mr Imran Khan and urged that he should visit the place and see for himself the losses which they have gone through. |
