PTI UK – Activist Meeting
On the 31st January 2010 a PTI UK activist meeting was held in Nottingham.
The activist meeting was conducted at Mr Akram Dhareeja’s residence. The active members of PTI came from all parts of the country including London, Manchester, Birmingham, Leeds, Sheffield and Blackburn.
Akram Dhareeja did the formal introduction and Nazir Malhi, PTI member from London gave an opening statement on the importance of accountability, transparency and empowerment of people (through an internal party election).
The partcipants agreed upon the agenda and recognised the importance of developing PTI as an institution. The activist discussed and deliberated in the meeting on the current challenges facing the party and agreed upon encouraging democratic culture within the party.
It was agreed that all party elements would be open and transparent for public scrutiny, pivotal for discouraging culture of impunity. There was a unanimous consensus upon adhering to party discipline at all times. GM Khan emphasised on implementing the General Secretary’s notifications in its letter and spirit and credibility of party’s financial activities must be backed by independent audit reporting system. Khawajah Imtiaz said that only through an election process the will of the people can be exercised, and not through nominations. It was emphasised during the discussion that empowering members of the party through the power of vote and making the party leadership answerable to its members is crucial for the long term stability of the party.
Party activist acknowledged and appreciated the efforts of the Akram Dhareejah for organizing the meeting. The meeting concluded with the common support of all the members for the agenda and agreed upon as a unifying force for the party. All the participants agreed to circulate the agenda amongst all party members and meet again in February, to further deliberate on the processes and procedures for the implementation of the agenda.
