Dr. Arif Alvi meets Dutch foreign ministry officials in The Hague

PTI Secretary general Dr. Arif Alvi held a meeting with Mr. Harry van Dijk at the dutch foreign ministry along with PTI Holland officials including Dr. Gulsher, Baber Sohail, Khawaja Saeed and Dr. Hammad Cheema. Mr. Harry van dijk holds the director South Asia and Pakistan desk at the foreign ministry.

 During the hour long meeting a variety of issues starting with Pakistan role in war on terror specially in Afghanistan was discussed. Dr. Alvi elaborated the negative impact this unjust war is having on Pakistan, its law and order and economy. He emphasized the importance of a clear exit strategy as the people of Afghanistan and tribal areas of Pakistan preceive it as a foreign occupation and not military help.
 
The development coorperation in Education, water and democratization sectors between Pakistan and Netherlands came under discussion as NL is a partner country in the friends of Pakistan group. Dr. Alvi highlighted that Pakistan being an agricultural country can develop its economy very rapidly if direct help is provided in improving farming techniques. Secondly Pakistan should be included in the free trade country list of EU to boost its economy and lastly the sharing of flory industry can become another avenue of cooperation. Mr. van Dijk informed the delegation that during a recent Pak-EU summit the free trade policy agreement has been discussed and will take shape in future.
 
Dr. Hammad Cheema elaborated PTI's role in the judicial movement since 2007 as well as struggle for rule of law, economic and social justice which forms the basis of the party's manifesto. PTI's important role in NWFP's future politics was also highlighted.
 
Dr. Arif Alvi also mentioned the importance of lifting bank secrecy rules in EU countries and asked the Netherlands government to lobby for its implementation so that corruption money from Pakistan and other 3rd world countries does not land here.

In the end, Mr. van Dijk thanked the delegation for an informative exchange of ideas and hoped for further such meeting with the party representatives.
