A public meeting was organized by PTI Holland in Amsterdam on 14th Feb. 2010. Dr. Arif Alvi was the chief guest on the occasion. Information secretary Baber Sohail, Amsterdam coordinator Khawaja Saeed made excellent arrangements of the event. More than 100 people as well as PTI officials from Belgium (Sheikh Majid, Hafiz Uneeb) and Germany (Toqeer Buttar) attended the event.
Journalists from Jang group, Daily Ausaf, TheJazba.com, Mustakbil, Khabrain and Pak Media center Europe were also present.
The event started with Talawat after which general secretary Dr. Hammad Cheema gave a presentation about the structure, performance and goals of PTI Holland chapter. A progress report for year 2008-2009 was also distributed among the audience.
Next, coordinator Holland Dr. Gulsher welcomed and thanked all guests and emphasized the importance of working for betterment of Pakistan through PTI's platform so that we can be proud to say that "Atleast we tried our best"
The next speaker was Sheikh Majid from PTI Belgium who enthusiastically highlighted the contributions of Imran Khan and PTI and called upon the audience to strengthen the party which is a source of hope and chnage in the currently stagnant systems of Pakistan
The chief guest Dr. Arif Alvi was the final speaker who started with a thought provoking comparison of current situation in Pakistan with the last sermon of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH). He said that murders were forgiven at the time but loans were not which reflects its importance and current Pakistan nees all massive load defaulters behind bars. He also said that Prophet's message of not segragating based on colour, creed or status is needed in Pakistan.
He explained PTI's stance on war on terror and emphasized the importance of troops withdrawl from Afghanistan for sustained peace in the region. He urged the people that its their responsibility to select a platform to bring about a positive change in the country. He motivated the audience by comparing Pakistan's situation with a child in desparate need and all of us having four choices:
1. Ignore and move forward
2. Help momentarity and keep feeling good
3. Come back every day and keep helping OR
4. Change the system which keeps producing such children
And if our choice is the last one, then PTI provides the platform to change the sytem.
The speech was followed by an actively participated Q&A session where a variety of questions from politics in Karachi, NA-55 by elections, visibility of second tier leadership on media, Kashmir policy and other questions were answered by Dr. Alvi.
