Dr. Arif Alvi takes charge as newly elected Secretary General of PTI

Press Release

Dr Arif Alvi has unanimously been elected by the Central Executive Committee of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf to be the Secretary General of the Party.  This was confirmed in a notification issued by the party Chairman Mr Imran Khan yesterday.  AVM (R) Shahid Zulfiqar the acting Secretary General had been requesting since a few months to be relieved of his responsibility because of personal reasons.  His resignation was therefore accepted and Dr Arif Alvi was persuaded to accept this position.

Dr Alvi is one of the founding members of the party having joined Mr Imran Khan before the party was announced in 1996 and since then has been a member of the Central Executive Committee.  He was elected the Sindh President at which position he served for a number of years, and then in the last election within the party he was elected Vice President at the Center.  He is also one of the original authors of the PTI constitution.

In his profession Dr Alvi has played a dynamic role too.  He is the past president of the Pakistan Dental Association, and served as the president of the Asia Pacific Dental Federation.  Recently he was elected to the FDI World Dental Federation by a huge margin of 103 countries voting for him in the recently concluded elections of this world chamber.

Today according to recent surveys PTI is the second most popular party definitely in the Frontier and is also surging ahead in other provinces.  With this recent upsurge in party popularity it is felt in the party circles that urgent efforts have to be made to organize the workers at the grass roots level, to prepare them for the major changes in the future and provide stability in the volatile situation facing the country.  The party in its recent CEC meeting also decided to come out with a revolutionary slogan to be unveiled soon.

Outgoing Secy Gen AVM (R) Shahid Zulfiqar is still very much part of PTI and its planning. I think he is still a member of the CEC though I don't believe he has taken any new post yet.

for a minutue i was sad about AVM leaving the post of secretary genral. Not that I know him personally but just looking at his pic in your website. I gathered that he is an honest , sincere and principled man.

But then again the whole team of IK is like that. but then again people like AVM stand out of the crowd.

I hope and pray that he stays with PTI and wish him all the best in his personal and PTI life.

where does he reside at the moment?
I ask this cuz I feel PTI is focussing too much on Lahore and thereby ignoring rst of country.
